A great many people are needed to keep the church running
smoothly and everyone plays their part. These pages will introduce you to
some of them. Two groups of people featured here: the Ministry Team which
oversees the worship and ministry and the Vestry which is the committee which
oversees the running of the church. A few people are involved in both groups.

Ministry teamIn recent years, the Anglican churches have enriched their
ministry through the wider involvement of non-stipendiary clergy and the
laity. Thus in Christ Church we have a Ministry Team in which the Rector leads and is supported by a
group of both ordained and lay people. |
VestryThe Vestry is the committee which manages the temporal affairs
of the Church. Normally the Vestry is chaired by the Rector, but,
during the interregnum, it was chaired by a lay member of the Congregation
selected by the Vestry. There are six elected Vestry members each serving three years. The Vestry appoints a Secretary and a Treasurer. There is also a Lay Representative who is elected by the Congregation, a Rector’s Warden chosen by the Rector and a People’s Warden elected by the Congregation. The Vestry, which meets monthly, is responsible for (a) the upkeep of the property, (b) ensuring that Christ Church’s mission work receives the interest and support of the Congregation and (c) assisting the Rector in all matters affecting the spiritual welfare of the Congregation. The Bishop and 2 senior members of the Vestry are the Trustees. The Constitution was revised in 1987. |
